The whole city is super chilled out in March because the summer crowds still haven’t poured in and flights and accommodation are still good value for money. And most importantly, temperatures start to climb and tulips begin to bloom. Want to know the best things to do in Amsterdam in March? A day trip to Keukenhof Gardens

If you’re in Amsterdam towards the end of March, make sure you pay a day trip to Keukenhof Gardens. This amazing tulip field in Lisse, located southwest of Amsterdam, opens its doors on 21st March until 10th May. 7 million flower bulbs are planted here each year, so you can imagine the fields upon fields of beauty at one of Europe’s prettiest parks. Try and arrive early and make the most of the colourful tulip fields when it’s free of crowds. The flowers will be in full bloom for spring time so make sure to pack your camera. It takes about an hour to travel to Keukenhof Gardens from Amsterdam Centraal by train. You can buy your tickets online for €17,50.

Amsterdam canal cruise

In March, the weather warms up in Amsterdam with highs of 10 degrees celsius making it the perfect temperature for a cooling canal cruise. Float down the peaceful waters of Jordaan and do some sightseeing of the city from another perspective. You can buy tickets for a 1 hour 15 minute canal cruise through the city on Get Your Guide from just €11 per person. Organised by the Blue Boat Company, it’s one of the most popular canal cruises through Amsterdam and a quintessential part of the Dutch experience.

Wonderland Festival

There aren’t a huge amount of music festivals taking place in Amsterdam during March but one you shouldn’t miss out on (if love house music) is Wonderland. This indoor music festival takes place on Saturday 21st March at the Thuishaven venue in Amsterdam, themed on Disney’s Alice in Wonderland. Serving up rumbling house and techno beats, the festival has an awesome line-up this year with three different rooms to enjoy from 1pm - 11pm. You can buy tickets online.

Amsterdam Coffee Festival

Calling all caffeine lovers. The Amsterdam Coffee Festival comes to the city from the 13th - 15th March. Located at the Westergras, this is the ultimate event to get a feel for Amsterdam’s cutting-edge coffee scene. At the event, you’ll be able to sample local coffees, experience the skill of latte art, learn about roasting techniques and tuck into delicious food from the in-house street food market. We recommend getting tickets for one day and pop by during the afternoon for a caffeine refuel and tasty lunch. A standard entry ticket is just €12.

Don’t Let Daddy Know Festival

If you’re visiting Amsterdam to party with your mates, there’s nowhere better to experience the city’s nightlife than at the Don’t Let Daddy Know festival. Held on March 6th inside the RAI (an epic indoor arena), house and techno lovers from all over the world come together under one roof to party hard. There’s always an incredible atmosphere at this festival which is one of the reasons it’s so popular. This year, Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike will be headlining. You can buy tickets online.

Amsterdam Wine Festival

Consider yourself a wine aficionado? Or perhaps you simply enjoy good wine and you’re looking for a fun evening out in the city. The Amsterdam Wine Festival is held over three days (20th - 22nd March) in the Gashouder Westergasfabriek nightclub (which is made atmospheric and cosy with charming fairy lights just for the festival). This year, the festival is showcasing wines from the southern hemisphere with New Zealand, Argentina, South Africa, Australia and Peru taking centre stage. Enjoy perfect wine pairings, live DJ’s, workshops, food from top chefs and a showcase of hundreds of wines at this awesome event. A glass of wine here starts from just €3. Tickets to the event are being sold from €11.50.

Cutting Edge Amsterdam Weekender

Want to party all weekend long? Don’t miss the Cutting Edge Amsterdam Weekender from Friday 6th - Sunday 8th March. This music festival is lit, consisting of 3 days and nights of great House music to be enjoyed across four venues in the city. Celebrating it’s 5th year, people travel from all over just to attend the Weekender. There’s an awesome line-up this year which you can check out here.
