Bakers & Roasters
This bright, modern cafe and roastery is a delight to brunch in. The cool thing about Bakers & Roasters is that it was founded by a Kiwi and a Brazilian so the menu and overall cafe aesthetic reflects a fusion between both New Zealand and Brazil. The coffee here is brewed in-house and tastes amazing, plus the menu is diverse offering more than just your typical brunch classics like eggs and pancakes - but also sandwiches, salads, hearty brunch bowls, milkshakes and brunch cocktails. If you’re really hungry, we recommend ordering the Kiwi Brekkie or Huevos Rancheros. This cafe partners with local farmers as much as it can to source its ingredients. A lot of the produce is locally sourced including the freshest free-range eggs, pork sausages, bacon and bread. There are two Bakers & Roasters locations in Amsterdam: one in De Pijp and the other in Kadijksplein.
For some alfresco brunching in the summer, head to Little Collins, a local favourite with two locations; one in Oud-West and a branch in De Pijp. Little Collins is an Aussie-run cafe inspired by Melbourne’s food and drinking culture, so if you’re up for a bit of a boozy brunch, Little Collins you covered. The flavoursome, punchy menu is innovative and experimental: we particularly love the Breakfast Ramen, Chickpea Pancake and the Soy Glazed Pork Belly with cabbage omelette. There are plenty of veggie options too (the chipotle cauliflower is a winner). The outside seating area is the perfect place to enjoy early afternoon eating and relaxing with friends. The inside is cool too; this joint has a very trendy minimalist interior with warmth added from hanging plants and greenery dotted around the cafe.
If you love a good omelette to start your morning, there’s no better place than Omelegg, a cafe specialising in hearty omelettes. Serving up the best omelettes in Amsterdam, this little place takes walk-in customers only so try and get there early. Using the best ingredients and prepared on the spot, your omelette couldn’t get any more fresh. You can choose different toppings and fillings for your omelette and portion sizes are hearty served with bread or salad. An Egg-cellent brunch spot if we must say so ourselves. There’s an Omelegg in Amsterdam’s city centre, not far from the Red Light District. There’s also another branch in De Pijp.
Want something a bit different for brunch? This amazing taco joint serves up incredible Mexican soul food not just for brunch, but all day. Think tasty tacos, burritos, vegan bowls, flavoursome eggs and homemade tortilla chips to dip into your guac. This taqueria’s brunch menu also offers delicious Bloody Mary’s and Mimosas. The plates of food here are so Instagrammable with all of the vibrant colours and fresh ingredients. We recommend trying the Fried Chicken Biscuit or the Kimchi Quesadilla. This is one of our favourite interiors in this list with low wooden bench seating, hanging lights, pops of colour from plants and a contemporary feel.
Right in the heart of Amsterdam in Vondelpark you’ll find Dignita. This place reinvents delicious brunch classics adding creative twists. Here, they hand craft every menu item from scratch using free range and locally sourced ingredients where possible, with nutrition at the heart of what they do. We love the Pad Thai Plant Bowl, the Bircher Bowl and the Zucchini and Chickpea Fritter. If you’re a cheese lover, we recommend the All Day Brekkie where you get a fresh baked croissant filled with creamy scrambled eggs and local melted Dutch cheese. Delicious. The rhubarb and rose pancake stack is also divine if you fancy something more indulgent and sweet.
An oasis in the bustling city of Amsterdam where you can escape the buzz and feel like you’re in a seaside paradise. Betty Blue is all about good food, good vibes and good atmosphere. We love the menu here - the pancake stack is insane and if you fancy it, why not try the breakfast pizza? This places serves up all things brunch including crispy bacon, poached eggs, smashed avo, breakfast bowls and omelettes so there is so much choice. Every day this cafe bakes fresh pastries and cakes to wash down with some coffee or tea.
