The best places for cheap beers and to meet people are the Flying Pig Hostel Bars. But if you want to explore more of Amsterdam, below a little guideline with some worthwhile cafés and bars. If the night still feels young and you want more, pick a club from the club-section. The regular opening hours of bars are: 10:00/12:00 -1:00 (3:00 in the weekends).

But keep in mind, there are hundreds of small little cafés in Amsterdam; Dutch people like to drink a beer with each other in a cozy place, so there are loads. So just stroll around, on every street corner you’ll find a place. Loads of them have life music too on regular nights, so don’t just focus on the bars mentioned below; just stroll around like a local and see for yourself what you like and what not.

A large number of (more touristy) bars are concentrated around the Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein, but there are plenty of other areas in Amsterdam with great nightlife! Try for example the Nieuwmarkt near the Red Light District, or De Pijp and Jordaan areas for more of the local bars. Some of the cafés and bars mentioned here are also great venues to hang out at daytime.

Beer, mostly pilsener –style, is usually served in a relatively small measure with a foaming head. Wine is reasonably priced. The Dutch spirit is ‘jenever’, Dutch gin. It’s served in a small glass, often drunk as a shot.
