A day on the beach in Noordwijk

Noordwijk is famous for its long sandy beaches, which help attract over one million visitors to the town every year.  The Noordwijk beach has been awarded the renowned blue flag; an internationally recognised standard presented annually to seaside resorts that provide clean beaches, safe swimming areas, good quality swimming water, sanitary facilities, and amenities for the disabled.   

The Noordwijk beach is only a 2 minute walk from The Flying Pig Beach Hostel and on a hot day there is no better European beach to be on.  Here at The Flying Pig Beach Hostel we insist on outdoor fun, and have an array of outdoor beach toys, balls, and games that guests are welcome to take down to the beach.  So check out The Flying Pig Beach Hostel in Noordwijk, lap up some European sun, and partake in a little beach volleyball, beach Frisbee, or the join in the hotly contested staff versus guest beach soccer matches that are organised throughout the summer by the Beach Hostel staff.  We also have surf boards and wetsuits that you are welcome to take out onto the water free of charge!  

If you happen to be visiting Noordwijk at the end of July then you are in for a real treat.  Not only is the town bathed in European sun, but it is also invaded by professional sand sculptors who build massive sand castles along the promenade. The breath taking designs stand well over 3 metres tall, and are built with startling intricacy. The best sand castle is awarded the coveted European Sand Sculpture of the year. 

And for those of you who wish to bath au-naturel there are two official European nudist beaches in Noordwijk - both situated to the north of the town, between beach post numbers 71.5 and 79.5. 

In the evenings the Noordwijk beach is the perfect place to watch the sun plunge into the sea.   The Noordwijk sunset is a truly spectacular demonstration of colour - the perfect appetiser to moonlight wander along the sand, and a wonderful way to end another day down on the best beach in Europe!
