Parties, fun and sight seeing

The Flying Pig Beach is a crazy backpackers hostel in the beach resort of Noordwijk, located only 30 kilometres from Amsterdam, just 15 kilometres from Schiphol airport and only 50 metres from the beach. With its beach life, party atmosphere and outdoor focus, the Beach attracts all sorts of backpackers wanting to party, have fun on the beach and do a bit of sight seeing.

The main area in the Beach hostel is ‘the Bar’, this is where it all happens. The relaxed atmosphere created by our crazy staff is ideal to make new friends. You’re always welcome to join in for a home cooked meal and with the music we play -everything but mainstream- parties are unavoidable. The Flying Pig Beach has a nice ‘chill out’ deck with comfortable rugs and pillows and a significant book collection for everybody to read and swap.

Beach life The main attraction besides the hostel is of course the beach: the 13 km golden sand beach has a lot to offer; you can just sit on your bum and enjoy the sunset or have a long stroll in the sea-breeze. But the beach is also perfect to practise all kinds of sports, such as swimming, beach volleyball, horseback riding, boarding, wind surfing and of course the latest trend ‘kite surfing’. Even closer by is Amsterdam of course with its numerous interesting sights. And if you want to find out more about the history of the Netherlands than The Hague and Leiden are a must. Both cities are very old and their history brings you back to the 17th century. Strolling along the beach, cycling through the sand dunes, sight seeing in the area or partying at the Beach bar. What is the Beach hostel really about?
‘The afternoon-beer-cult says it all: at 5:30 pm everybody stops in the middle of what they have been doing -mostly recovering from previous nights at the beach- to gather around the bar.
This one new band that I don’t know about yet is jamming away in the speakers while the bartender swings behind the bar trying to remember everybody’s first name. Cheapest beer in town and no fucking foam he yells out loud, and he’s right. The atmosphere is set. From there the night evolves, as if it is a living creature. More and more people gather around the bar and they are from all over the world so the tough travel stories are being exchanged. At around 7 pm dinner is served at the big table where everybody is welcome to join. -I always did-. Most of the times it is good and sometimes it is reasonable, but it is always fun.

After dinner there is always a group that goes to the beach to play around and smoke a spliff and if the weather allows it the beach organizes beach volleyball. At the hostel the volume is turned up and fresh sounds fill up the bar. A small quote from the guest book: ‘Cool underground sounds and open minds, I never made friends so easy as in the Flying Pig, cause you can be yourself no matter who you are. You will have the best times ever for The Beach hostel rocks’.

9:30 pm the bartender makes a very annoying sound with a copper bell, the bartenders challenge is on. I never understood exactly how it worked and I never won, I know it involves a lot of tequila or flaming sambuca’s and lots of fun. The rest of the night it is covered in a hazy cloud of drunkenness, but obviously I made it to bed cause that’s were I found myself with my clothes still on and a banging headache. Shit I missed breakfast again!!’
