Smallest Café in Amsterdam As every single café suddenly appeared spotlessly clean when we entered there for our planned grossest café feature, we continue our special with the small-est bar in Amsterdam. Don’t worry however, we’ll list a place you’ll want to avoid in another issue :-) Café “De Dokter” was founded more than 200 years ago by a surgeon of the nearby hospital that is now the Amsterdam Medical Centre, and used to attract a crowd of medical students and doctors. Hidden away in a small street next to Dam square and still owned by the same family Beems, now 6th generation owners, this tiny place measures only 18 m2. The unique atmosphere and decoration reminds of times long gone, with jazz music from famous artists like Ella Fitzgerald and Billy Holiday, and an assortment of special beers & whiskeys are served together with a portion of cheese or smokes sausage.. Now compare this to the average 2-for-1 specials we all love so much, and this place may just be a cultural experience that should be on anyone’s itinerary for Amsterdam… Café de Dokter The smallest bar of Amsterdam
