Off the beaten Museum track

Everybody knows the famous museums in Amsterdam. Van Gogh, Het Rijksmuseum and the Anne Frank house are always the first visited places, but what about the more unusual museums? We went off the beaten track and found some museums, which you might find worth a visit as well.

One that definitely leaves a big impression is the Torture Museum. When you enter the place it feels like you step into another world. It’s built up as a medieval dungeon with burning torches on the sides. The collection of torture instruments is huge and old drawings show you how they were used.

Another more happy museum is the Hash, Marihuana and Hemp Museum (it’s merely pocket change at only €2.50), to see some of the best information about the history of pot and hash in different countries. And of course you get to see some awesome plants.

Amsterdam has the oldest and very first sex museum, The Venustempel, its quite famous and worth a visit. Something you might enjoy more is the small condom museum/shop called Het Gulden Vlies. Its a kingdom of condoms with all colors, shapes and flavors. Some are hand painted and are for decoration only. You can also find books and lots of information to enlarge your knowledge;-).

If you walk around and look closely you will find hundreds of small museums/ shops about any subject you can think of. So, get up from your lazy chair and start exploring.
