Underground... in the Attic
Amsterdam tolerant? Not in the 17th century…
The Catholic religion was not done in Protestant Amsterdam after the 80-year war against the Spanish that terminated in 1648.
So, since ‘underground’ is the middle name of us ‘Amsterdammers’, we built a secret Catholic church in the attic of a canal house, in the heart of the Red Light District!
It is now open to everyone as the ‘Our Lord in the Attic Museum’ and really is impressive and worth paying a visit during your trip to Amsterdam!
