On Saturday November 3rd 2007 Amsterdam will celebrate Museum Night (n8) for the eighth year in a row.
42 museums and institutions will open their doors and organize special events from 7pm until 2am! Although the event focuses on a Dutch audience, there is plenty to see and do for non-Dutch speakers. Also, the permanent collections and temporary exhibitions of the museums are open, so this could be very ‘backpacker-friendly’ (read: cheap) way to see everything you planned (museumwise).
Museumnacht (Museumnight) aims to reach a young local audience. That is why almost all communication is only available in Dutch. However, local English-language paper Amsterdam Weekly (www.amsterdamweekly.nl), available at the Flying Pig Hostels, comes to your rescue. They will publish an English language program in their Museumnacht-issue that’s out on October 30th. Besides the hostel, you can find it in most bars and cultural hotspots around town. And don’t rush though the night, because your n8-ticket is valid for one extra visit to one of the participating museums until December 31st 2007.
