Top 10 FAQ

1. How do I make a booking?
The easiest way to make a booking is on this website. Just select the date, number of people and number of nights. Click 'Book Now' and fill in all required fields. Please note that we do not allow guests under the age of 18! 

You can only book with a credit card (Visa or MasterCard) to which we charge 10% deposit, or you can choose to pay in full so you don't have to worry about payments upon arrival! If you choose to pay a 10% deposit you need to pay the remaining amount upon arrival, in cash or by card, that's up to you. 

If you don't have a credit card, you can arrange to borrow it of a friend or relative, If they agree to have the 10% or 100% charged to their card. 

If you prefer to make a booking on the phone, you can call us at 
+31 (0)20 428 49 34. Please have your credit card ready so we can book it for you directly.

2. How do I cancel my booking?
During office hours (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm) you can email us at or call +31 (0)20 428 49 34. Please provide us with your booking details for a quick handling of your cancellation. 

Only when you receive a personal reply with the confirmation of your cancellation, you can be sure that your cancellation has been processed and you won't get charged as no-show.

For urgent cancellations outside office hours you will need to call the hostel directly. 
If you cancel too late (within those 24 hours) we will do our best to sell your bed to someone else but if that is unsuccessful we will need to charge the amount of the first night and cancel the remaining booking.

3. How do I change my booking? 
During office hours (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm) you can email us at or call +31 (0)20 428 49 34. Please provide us with your booking details for a quick handling of your booking change. Only when you receive a personal reply with the confirmation of your change, you can be sure that is has been processed.

4. How do I make sure I'm in the same room as my friends? 
Just make your online booking and send us an email with the booking number(s) of you and your friends and explain what you prefer. Then we will do our best to put you in the same room and will always reply to you in person. Please read the note on the different room types before you book and contact us if you are not sure what to book!

5. Can I smoke at the Flying Pig?
Yes, all Flying Pig hostels have a smoking area connected to the bar, where you can smoke your cigarette while chatting to fellow guests.

Note: all other areas in the hostel are non-smoking (rooms, hallways, kitchen)

6. What is a queensize bunk?
A queensize bunk is a bunk bed 120 cm wide for 2 people to sleep on one mattress. These bunks are always in dorms (not a private room). They can only be booked per bed (per 2 people) and are cheaper than a single bed but you will need to be comfortable spooning your bed mate ;-)

7. Which facilities and services are included in the price? 
Continental breakfast; every morning 8:30-11:00 (Uptown in summer 7:30-10:00). Cereal, various kinds of bread, butter, milk, juice, tea, coffee, fruit, boiled egg, jam, peanut butter, Fresh bed linen; don't bring your own sleeping bag, we have your bed ready made for you. Lockers in the room; every bed has a locker (70x25x65) that is free to use if you bring your own padlock. We also sell padlocks for €3. Reception safe: free to use, for small valuable items. Luggage lockers: we have automated lockers in the hallways to lock up your luggage before check-in or after check-out. €0.40 per hour up to €2 for 24 hours. Free WiFi in the whole building. You can also rent laptops at reception (€1 for 20 minutes) Towels: we advise you to bring your own towel but if you forgot it, you can borrow a fresh one for €3 deposit that you get back when you return it. Kitchen: fully equipped guest kitchen to make your own meals and store your food (no food to be kept in the rooms)

8. What time is check-in and check out?
We welcome you to check-in 24 hours a day. Check-out is 10:30 (no late check-out possible). After check-out we clean the rooms so they are ready around 15:00. If you arrive before that time we can check you in and give you your key, you can store your bag in a luggage locker and chill out at the bar or explore the city.

9. How do I book for over 10 people?
For up to 10 people you can make your booking directly online on this website but if you want to be 100% sure you are all together in a room, please send us an email to with your booking number and we will reply to you personally. Groups over 10 people can not book online but should send an email to Please mention dates, number of people, mixed group (male/female?), age range, room type preference and purpose of the trip. Then we will reply to you personally with an offer for your group.

10. How do I apply for a job at the Pig?
You need an EU passport or valid working permit for the Netherlands. For Canadians, New-Zealanders and Australians it's easy for under 30-years olds to obtain a working holiday visa. You have to apply for this visa outside of the Netherlands, so make sure you arrange it before you come over! We are continuously looking for Willing Helpers At the Pig, better known as our beloved whappers! This means you work with us for free accommodation, about 30 hours, spread over 5 days a week. Free breakfast, a meal with all the staff every week and 2 free drinks at the bar after work. The work will mainly be cleaning and breakfast but you work in a team so wherever there is help needed, we all help each other out! As we deal with staff coming and going it's hard for us to tell you in advance when we will be needing new staff. Best is to come by or stay at the hostel and get a hold of the manager to have a chat.
